You may have seen it on Conan. Or perhaps you caught it on YouTube. With a heated seat, adjustable bidet wand, touch screen remote and motion-activated lid (among other things), the Numi toilet is the most advanced toilet Kohler has ever created. And now, the high-tech loo is being recognized by two of the most prominent global design award organizations – Good Design and iF.
“As a global company, our goal is always to be on the leading edge of design and innovation,” says David Kohler, President and COO of Kohler Co. “Numi convinced the judges – and consumers worldwide – not only with its advanced technology and amazing user experience, but also with its beautiful, minimalist design. We are truly honored to receive this recognition from two of the most respected global design organizations.”
While the Numi’s exterior adopts legendary architect Mies van der Rohe’s “Less is more” mantra, the interior technology and features are anything but. As you step up to the Numi, the lid opens automatically. Set your foot off to the side and the seat will rise. Each of the Numi’s high-tech options are controlled with a touch screen remote, including heated seats, an adjustable bidet wand and the ability to hook up your music device or warm your feet.
With so many features, it’s no wonder the toilet grabbed the attention of Good Design and iF judges. Of the 3,162 applications entered in the 2011 Good Design Award, the KOHLER Numi toilet was selected as 1 of 62 house fixtures product recipients of the prestigious award. Organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), the JPD receives approximately 3,000 submissions from more than 1,000 companies and designers from inside / outside of Japan every year. These designs are screened by about 60 design experts, who select and recommend those designs worthy of the Good Design Awards.
For 58 years, the iF product design award has been an internationally recognized label for award-winning design and the iF brand has become a symbol for outstanding achievements in design. Out of 2,923 entries, Numi was selected as the recipient of the renowned iF Awards 2012 for product design, under the bathroom / wellness category.
These awards are truly an honor and continue to push Kohler to imagine, innovate and think outside the box. Or perhaps the loo, in this case.
